A wholesome, cosy fantasy story I didn’t know I needed.
The premise is pretty original, taking everything you expect from a fantasy and turning it on its head. Instead of following the fearsome Orc mercenary on an epic, violent quest, we get to watch her fulfil her dream of opening a coffee shop.
I enjoy reading across different genres anyway, so this was a perfect hybrid for me. It manages to keep enough fantasy elements to keep it true to the genre whilst also having the cosy, heartfelt vibes of contemporary fiction. There is the whimsy of magical creatures and fantastical elements combined with stories of friendship and found family.
It is a refreshingly low-stakes book compared to your usual action-packed fantasy novel. Sometimes you need a cosy novel to snuggle and settle in with.
